Teacher answer key

  1. Warm-up: answers will vary.
  2. Vocabulary suggestions: tomb = a place where a dead person is buried; pharaoh = an ancient Egyptian ruler; quarried = cut/extracted stone from the ground; evidence = information showing something is true; settlement = a place where people live; precise = very exact.
  3. Reading comprehension: 1) Tombs for kings and other important people. 2) At Giza, near modern Cairo. 3) The pharaoh Khufu. 4) Many workers lived in organised settlements near the building site. 5) Accept: because of their size and precise construction / because they show extraordinary planning, skill and resources.
