Teacher answer key

  1. Warm-up: answers will vary.
  2. Vocabulary: accept accurate contextual meanings.
  3. Reading / grammar: Comprehension: 1) Many groups have different roles. 2) Water, food, medicines, torches and other supplies. 3) Practise evacuation and teach safe responses. 4) Strengthen old buildings and design safer new ones. 5) To reduce vulnerability and improve response. Grammar: 1 should; 2 should / must; 3 should not / must not; 4 may / might.
  4. Listening script: “A basic emergency kit should contain water, food, a torch, batteries, medicines and a radio. Families should also agree on how they will contact one another if phone networks are busy.”
  5. Speaking, something fun and writing: answers will vary.

Puzzle/Game: answers will vary. Encourage students to use lesson vocabulary and explain their choices.

Success criteria: this is a student self-check. No single answer is required.

For open-ended tasks, accept different answers when students can explain or support them clearly.
