South Korea is a country in East Asia. Its capital, Seoul, is a large modern city with tall buildings, busy shopping areas and an excellent public transport system. South Korea is also known for its long history and traditions. Visitors can see royal palaces, traditional houses and colourful markets. Korean food often includes rice, vegetables, soup and dishes such as bibimbap and kimchi. Music, film and television from South Korea have become popular around the world. The country also has mountains, islands and beautiful coastlines. South Korea shows how old traditions and fast-changing modern life can exist side by side.
