A Day Without Electricity

Last winter, strong winds damaged power lines near Priya’s town. At seven in the morning, the electricity suddenly went off. The lights stopped working, the heater became cold and the Wi-Fi disappeared.
Priya’s family had to change their plans. They cooked breakfast on a small camping stove outside and boiled water for tea. Because the school was closed, Priya stayed home with her younger brother.
During the afternoon, they played cards, read books and helped their parents clear branches from the garden. Their phones slowly lost power, so they used them only when necessary.
The electricity returned just after six in the evening. Priya was pleased to have light and heating again, but she was surprised that the family had enjoyed a quiet day without screens.
