Malala Yousafzai grew up in Pakistan’s Swat Valley and became known for speaking publicly about girls’ right to education. When Taliban militants gained influence in the region, they restricted schooling for girls. In 2012, a gunman attacked Malala on a school bus. She survived after medical treatment in Pakistan and Britain. Rather than becoming silent, she continued campaigning internationally. In 2014, at seventeen, she shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Kailash Satyarthi, becoming the youngest Nobel laureate at that time. Her story links personal courage with a wider global debate about access to education.
